Flaming Lips - One Day Story
Fans held their spot in the front row during the opening
act, watching and waiting for the Flaming Lips to begin
their set on north 9th St on September 18, 2010.
Coming into view of the audience, Wayne Coyne
theatrically extends his arms into the large plastic ball that
has become a staple of his performances with the
Flaming Lips. Much like a gerbil running in a ball, the lead
singer is able to crawl and spin in the apparatus while
entertaining those around him.
Nick Dorsey and Grace Larkin, both 9, talk about props
on stage. The two wore eccentric accessories, but
blended in with the many other costumed Flaming Lips
fans.
2,000 tickets were available for the Flaming Lips concert
hosted by the Blue Note, which sold out the day of the
show. The band has built a reputation for great
performances at large festivals, making Columbia’s venue
seem intimate in comparison.
Wayne Coyne addresses the crowd with a rigged
megaphone, covered in bright orange tape that matches
the rest of the concert’s colorful quality.
