The Pinto Hospital - Hearst Edit
I just entered this in the Heart Photo Story Competition. It feels great to have a tighter edit.
Story Summary:
Dr. Sunita Pinto follows her mother’s tradition and works as an obstetrician in the low-cost maternity hospital, Pinto Hospital, which her parents started in 1947 in Mumbai, India. Dr. Pinto manages the ward, consults patients, delivers babies and performs surgeries at fees nearly unchanged by inflation. Pinto lives alone in the apartment her parents and siblings once shared, three floors above the hospital, where she is constantly available by foot or phone to the hospital. Her unrelenting diligence to provide safe, low-cost health care in India allows the families she serves to put their child’s health before their income.
